A Texas woman, Natalie Sorrells, 44, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing her son’s 13-year-old friend. Sorrells, a real estate agent and former church volunteer in Rockwall County, had been engaging in inappropriate behavior with the minor since 2023.
Evidence of the illicit relationship was discovered by the victim’s mother, who found a series of inappropriate text messages between Sorrells and her son. In these messages, Sorrells referred to the boy as “babe”. The victim also reported to the police that Sorrells had supplied him and his friends with alcohol and tobacco on multiple occasions.
The victim recounted instances of sexual contact with Sorrells, including one incident in a car after she had picked him up from a football game, and another at a party hosted by her son. During one of these encounters, Sorrells reportedly received a call from her husband questioning her fidelity.
The victim’s mother discovered the text messages weeks before the boy revealed that Sorrells had sexually abused him. Sorrells was arrested in February and found guilty on two counts of indecency with a child. In addition to her prison sentence, she was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
Before her arrest, Sorrells was a volunteer at the Lakepointe Church in Rockwall. The church community expressed shock at the revelations of abuse. Although it was understood that no inappropriate activity had occurred on church premises or during church events, Sorrells was immediately removed from her volunteer position and barred from any contact with minors at the church.
The church issued a statement to local news outlet KDFW, stating that they had informed Lakepointe parents of the situation and had taken immediate action to ensure the safety of their young congregants.
