Cause of Death Revealed for 16-Year-Old TikTok Star

The cause of death for Joshua Blackledge, a 16-year-old TikTok influencer with over a million followers, has been disclosed nearly three months after his passing. Blackledge died by suicide in his Newport, North Carolina home on March 18. A family member discovered him, and he left behind a teddy bear, a handwritten note, and a photograph, according to documents obtained by the media.

Blackledge’s death was the result of a gunshot wound to the head. Medical examiner documents indicate that the young social media star had shown behavioral changes both socially and acadically in the months leading up to his death. No evidence of drug use was found at the scene.

Blackledge was a junior at West Carteret High School in Morehead City, where he was an active participant in wrestling and track, as per his obituary. He was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly fishing and boating with friends, and his passion for cars and trucks. At home, he enjoyed helping his mother with cooking, gardening, and yard work. He was known for his energetic spirit and entertaining nature, often impressing others with his acrobatic skills.

His TikTok account frequently featured videos of his white BMW car and, more recently, a new white truck. His girlfriend, Emmie Gillikin, was also a regular feature on his account. The couple had celebrated their eight-month anniversary just days before his untimely death.

Following Blackledge’s death, Gillikin shared a series of videos of the couple on social media. In a heartfelt post in March, she expressed her grief and shock, remembering Blackledge as someone who always managed to make her smile. The couple had first met over two years ago, and one of Blackledge’s most popular videos was a compilation of their moments together, posted on their five-month anniversary.

Blackledge is survived by his parents and brother. In the wake of his death, it is important to remember that help is available for those struggling with suicidal thoughts or experiencing a mental health crisis. In New York City, the NYC-WELL hotline offers free and confidential crisis counseling.
