An eight-year-old girl in Minnesota courageously intervened in an attempted robbery at her father’s liquor store, using a baseball bat to fend off the alleged perpetrator. The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, occurred at Big Discount Liquors in Maplewood around 9:30 p.m. on a recent Saturday.
The alleged robber, identified as 37-year-old Conchobhar Morrell, entered the store dressed in an Amazon uniform and brandished what seemed to be a handgun. The girl’s father, known only as Leo, recounted that Morrell demanded all the money in the register. As Leo scrambled to comply, Morrell allegedly attempted to move behind the counter where the young girl was standing.
The surveillance footage shows Leo quickly reacting, punching Morrell and wrestling him to the ground. It was at this point that the young girl took action, arming herself with a baseball bat and repeatedly striking Morrell as her father tried to subdue him.
Leo expressed his surprise and pride in his daughter’s actions, admitting he was unaware of her involvement until he reviewed the surveillance footage. He had expected to see his daughter crying or screaming, but instead, she had bravely stepped in to help.
Morrell managed to escape from the store but was apprehended by police shortly after. He has been charged with first-degree attempted aggravated robbery. The weapon he initially brandished was later identified by police as a BB gun.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that Morrell had been working as a delivery associate for a third-party service. Following his arrest, he will be immediately terminated from his position. Morrell is currently in custody and is scheduled for his initial court hearing on Friday.
