Booby-Trapped ‘No Parking’ Sign Leads to Assault Charges

A Mississippi man’s frustration over parking issues led him to take extreme measures, according to local law enforcement. A woman was injured by a “no parking” sign allegedly rigged with razor blades by the man, an incident that occurred last week. The woman sought help at a local store, Sky Mart Bait Shop and Grocery in Oxford, after being cut by the sign.

The store’s manager, Jordan Jennings, recounted the woman’s distress. She was visibly upset and asked for something to clean her wound. The incident took place on Wednesday, November 20, at the Lafayette County store.

The man at the center of the incident, 51-year-old Jason Scott Curle, was reportedly fed up with people disregarding the “no parking” signs he had placed around his mobile home. Local police reported that Curle had been setting up these signs for a considerable period.

Curle’s wife, Michelle Curle, shared with the local Oxford Eagle newspaper that their gravel driveway, where their mobile home is situated, was frequently blocked by cars dropping off and picking up students from a nearby school. The driveway had recently been expanded and now sits on property used by the school, the Lafayette County Fire Department, and a community center. This situation has led to traffic congestion and parking problems in the area, which prompted Curle’s “no parking” campaign.

However, there was a significant issue with Curle’s approach. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office reported that Curle had allegedly been placing his signs on parts of the property that he did not own.

Furthermore, he is accused of attaching razor blades to at least one of the signs. The woman who was injured by the booby-trapped sign suffered a cut on her right hand, leading to Curle being charged with aggravated assault for intentionally attempting to cause injury.

Curle was released from the Lafayette County Detention Center on the same day and is currently out on a $20,000 bond. Attempts to reach him and his wife for comments have been unsuccessful.
