Two Kentucky men, Chadwick Fleming, 35, and Davone Collins, 26, are facing formal charges in connection to a murder that occurred in October 2024. The victim, 34-year-old Mitchell Jackson, was found deceased and wrapped in sheets at an intersection. The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department made the indictment public on Wednesday.
Jackson’s body was discovered on October 20, 2024, at the crossroads of 18th Street and West Muhammad Ali Boulevard in Louisville. Initial police reports suggested that the body was bound with duct tape. Subsequent confirmation revealed that the cause of death was gunshot wounds.
Local news outlet WAVE reported that an arrest citation indicated Fleming was taken into custody on October 25, 2024, five days after Jackson’s body was found. The investigation into Jackson’s murder revealed that his body had been wrapped in sheets and garbage bags, and secured with zip ties and duct tape.
The police also reported that the body had allegedly been attached to the bumper of an SUV and dragged along the street by Fleming. At some point, the body became detached from the SUV, and Fleming attempted unsuccessfully to load it into the back of the vehicle. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the moment Fleming allegedly discarded Jackson’s body at the intersection.
Fleming was initially charged with tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. He was held at the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Following the indictment, Fleming now faces an additional charge of murder.
Collins was also indicted on charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse in relation to the same case. However, details regarding his involvement or his relationship with Fleming have not been disclosed. Collins was arrested without incident on Tuesday and is currently detained at the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center.
Both Fleming and Collins are scheduled to appear in court on July 28.
