Body of Missing Man Found in River

An Ohio woman, aged 32, has been apprehended by authorities on suspicion of murdering her boyfriend, whose disappearance was reported in late 2024. His remains were discovered in the Huron River by a kayaker in May of the following year. Dy’mond Vaden was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on multiple charges, including two counts of murder and felonious assault, tampering with evidence, gross abuse of a corpse, and possession of weapons under disability, in connection with the death of George Cox Jr.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement revealing that Cox’s family had reported him missing on November 8, 2024. The family’s last contact with the 32-year-old man was around October 19, 2024. The Cleveland Division of Police’s Missing Persons Unit was assigned to the case. Officers conducted a welfare check at the home Cox was believed to be sharing with Vaden, who was identified as his girlfriend at the time.

Upon arrival at the residence located near Bosworth Road and Peony Avenue in Cleveland, officers reported a suspicious scene. The apartment appeared vacant with minimal furniture and what seemed to be blood on the floor. Further investigation confirmed the blood belonged to Cox and that Vaden had moved out.

In May 2025, two kayakers discovered a body in a shallow part of the Huron River. The body, bound with rope and wrapped in a bed sheet, was later identified as George Cox Jr. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 911 call made by the kayakers.

According to local CBS affiliate WOIO in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Cox’s body was specifically wrapped in a fitted bed sheet and bound with marine-style rope. Prosecutors revealed that blood found on clothing items at Vaden’s residence matched Cox’s. The bed sheet used to wrap Cox’s body also matched the sheets found in their shared home. Additional DNA evidence and phone records further linked Vaden to the crime.

The cause of Cox’s death has not been disclosed by authorities. On July 21, 2025, Vaden was located and arrested at a new residence she was sharing with Emmanuel McQueen Jr., aged 41. A firearm was allegedly recovered from the premises. McQueen was also indicted on one count of possession of a weapon under disability.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley stated that George Cox Jr.’s family is one step closer to justice. He praised the CDP Homicide detectives for their diligent work on the case. The court date for Vaden has not been announced yet.
