Body of Missing 9-Year-Old Girl Found

A heartbreaking event transpired in Ticonderoga, New York, on Sunday when a 9-year-old Canadian girl was found dead, several hours after her father reported her missing and potentially abducted. The lifeless body of Melina Galanis Frattolin was discovered about 30 miles away from Lake George, the place her father had identified as her last known location.

Earlier that day, an Amber Alert had been activated by the New York State Police due to the perceived “imminent danger” of harm or death to the young girl. However, as the investigation progressed, no proof of an actual kidnapping was found.

The girl’s father, Luciano Frattolin, 45, had reached out to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office late Saturday night to report his daughter’s disappearance, hinting at a possible abduction. Both the father and daughter are Canadian residents, as per the New York State Police.

As the investigation was led by the sheriff’s office, inconsistencies were noted in the father’s account and the timeline he provided. This resulted in the state police assuming control of the investigation due to jurisdictional issues.

The state police activated an Amber Alert for Melina about four hours after her disappearance was reported, along with a detailed description. The alert was deactivated at 4:18 p.m. on Sunday. The alert had indicated that the child was believed to be in immediate danger of severe harm or death.

The details of the alleged abduction were not immediately revealed, and the suspect was labeled as “unknown” in the police report. No suspect has been identified or apprehended, but the state police have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

The state police are scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday to provide more information about Melina’s death and disappearance.
