Baby Found Dead With Eggshells and Feathers in His Stomach

Natalia Munoz-Paulino, a 26-year-old woman from Florida, is currently being held in custody following the tragic death of her 9-month-old son due to ingestion of lethal quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine. Munoz-Paulino is facing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

On July 2, 2024, detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department were summoned to a local hospital where the infant boy was pronounced dead. Subsequently, the investigators visited Munoz-Paulino’s residence on SW 147th Avenue. The apartment was found in a chaotic state, littered with old food, trash, used hygiene products, and clothing.

During their visit, the police had to prevent the deceased boy’s older sibling from consuming contents from a baby oil bottle. Munoz-Paulino initially informed the police that she had fallen asleep while holding her son and woke up to find him unresponsive and discolored. However, her narrative of the incident varied in subsequent interactions with investigators and family members, with claims ranging from the child falling and hitting his head, to drowning, and choking.

Munoz-Paulino also told detectives that her son had a habit of putting foreign objects in his mouth. An autopsy revealed the presence of eggshells and feathers in the child’s stomach. However, the cause of death was determined to be lethal ingestion of cocaine and methamphetamine, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide by child neglect.

Munoz-Paulino was arrested the following Monday. After being read her rights, she admitted to using drugs during a party at her apartment on the weekend of her son’s death. The child’s father, who lives out of state, confirmed this, stating that he had previously seen Munoz-Paulino using meth at the apartment.

Currently, Munoz-Paulino is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without the possibility of bail. She has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against her.
