Amish Mother Allegedly Drowns Toddler Son in Lake

In a tragic incident in Ohio, a 40-year-old Amish woman allegedly drowned her 4-year-old son in Atwood Lake, following the self-inflicted drowning of her 45-year-old husband, Marcus J. Miller. The couple, parents to four children, reportedly believed they were acting on divine instructions during the early hours of a Saturday morning while their family was camping at the lake, according to Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell.

The couple was reportedly under a “spiritual delusion,” believing that their actions were a test of their faith. After their initial plunge into the lake, Miller informed his wife of his intention to return to the water. A witness reported seeing him near the lake at around 6:30 a.m. His body was later recovered by search and rescue teams on Sunday evening.

Approximately two hours after Miller was last seen, his wife, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly began to drive erratically around the area with her 4-year-old son, Vincent Miller, in a golf cart. She then reportedly drowned the young boy at the dock. His body was discovered later that evening, around 6 p.m.

Following this, the mother allegedly drove the golf cart into the lake with her three other children, including her 15-year-old daughter and 18-year-old twin sons. All three children managed to escape the golf cart safely, alerting law enforcement to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities became worried about the safety of the 4-year-old boy and the woman’s husband, who were both unaccounted for. The mother reportedly made alarming statements to the officers, including that she had thrown her son into the water “to give him to God.”

After gathering statements from the woman, the children, and other witnesses, authorities began to suspect foul play. The mother is expected to face charges of aggravated murder and is currently receiving mental health treatment in a hospital. The remaining children are now in the care of other family members.
