4 Stabbed, 2 Fatally, at House Pool Party

A man from Michigan has been arrested and charged with murder following a violent incident at a pool party that resulted in the stabbing of four individuals, two of whom did not survive. Daiwan Lemane Hopson, 31, was taken into custody in connection with the events that unfolded on August 9, as announced by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident reportedly began with a dispute between Hopson and an unidentified 40-year-old man at the residence of Jakirea Williams, 31. As the disagreement escalated, Hopson is alleged to have drawn a knife and stabbed the man multiple times. The altercation then moved to the front yard of the property.

Williams, in an attempt to intervene and defuse the situation, was reportedly stabbed by Hopson. Two others, Martisha Payne, 25, and another 31-year-old man, were also stabbed. All four victims were rushed to the hospital, but only two survived their injuries.

Following the incident, Hopson fled the scene but was apprehended on August 15. His arrest was facilitated by the Michigan Department of Corrections, as Hopson was already on parole for a previous charge of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm, as reported by local Fox affiliate WJBK.

Hopson is set to be arraigned in Detroit on charges that include two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder. The date for his arraignment has not yet been determined.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy expressed her dismay at the tragic turn of events. She described the gathering as a friendly end-of-summer event among family and friends that quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation. She lamented the senseless introduction of a deadly weapon, resulting in multiple fatalities.
