Teen tragically dies after getting trapped by sand dune

A heartbreaking event took place on Saturday at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina when a 17-year-old Virginia boy tragically died after a sand dune collapsed on him, trapping him in a deep hole he had dug.

His family and friends frantically searched for him until they found the teen buried in the sand, and immediately contacted the rescue team.

Officials reported that they received a 911 call at around 2 pm regarding the teen’s situation. First responders worked diligently to free him from the sand and started providing CPR, yet they were unable to bring him back to life.

The death of the unnamed teen is currently under investigation and the National Park Service has expressed their condolences to his family and friends.

The incident serves as a reminder to beachgoers of the risks associated with digging deep cavities in the sand. This region of North Carolina is a popular destination for people who wish to surf, fish, and take pleasure in the beach.

The National Park Service has urged beachgoers to be aware of the risks of digging deep holes in the sand. The pit where the young man was found was situated in the back-dune area behind the primary one and was not visible from the beachfront.
