3-Year-Old Almost Strangled by Moonroof, Left in Car by Mom

A Texas woman, Angela Moreno, 24, who was employed as a delivery driver for DoorDash, has been charged with causing injury to her child. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in October 2024, as reported by the Belton Police Department. Moreno had taken her two young sons, aged 3 and 1, with her while she was on a delivery run.

According to the police, Moreno left her children unattended in the car when she went into a restaurant to pick up an order. Upon her return, she found her older son’s head protruding from the car’s moonroof, which had closed on his neck.

The incident took place on the evening of October 10, 2024. Emergency services were called to the scene around 9 p.m. and found the 3-year-old boy unconscious and not breathing. Paramedics performed emergency procedures on the child and rushed him to McClane Children’s Hospital. The boy survived his injuries.

The police report suggests that while Moreno was inside the restaurant, the boy attempted to stick his head out of the moonroof. He accidentally closed it on himself using the button on the car’s ceiling. The moonroof’s door then closed on his neck, blocking his airway and preventing him from breathing.

The case was referred to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office by the police. Moreno was formally charged with injury to a child on March 25. She was taken into custody and booked into Bell County Jail. On March 27, she posted a $50,000 bond.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles. It underscores the importance of child safety measures and the need for parents to remain vigilant at all times.
