A 14-year-old boy from Clay County, Florida, is currently being held by police after allegedly shooting his parents to death and then walking over a mile to a local church to report the incident to 911. The teenager, named Trevor Lee, is said to have requested the dispatcher to pray for him during the early morning call on Monday.
Lee is now facing two charges of second-degree murder in relation to the deaths of his parents, 45-year-old Brandi Smith and 44-year-old David Lee. The tragic event took place at the family’s home in Middleburg, as reported in a police press release.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office stated that Lee made the 911 call from Cross Pointe Church on Fleming Island around 3:48 a.m. He had walked approximately 1.4 miles to get to the church. During the call, Lee reportedly admitted to the dispatcher that he had killed his parents and was waiting at the church for the police to arrive.
The dispatcher is said to have responded to Lee’s prayer request, telling him, “I’ll definitely be praying for you, son.” Lee was then taken into custody at the church without any further incidents.
Lee’s aunt, who is also David Lee’s sister, made another call to the police. She reportedly shared information about the couple’s activities on the day before the tragic incident. According to her, the couple had enjoyed a day out at the movies.
During a press conference on Monday, Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook suggested that a domestic dispute might have been the catalyst for the fatal shooting. However, further details about the nature of the dispute were not disclosed.
On Tuesday, Clay County officials released the audio from Lee’s 911 call, along with his mugshot and arrest report. The report detailed how Lee waited at Cross Pointe Church for the police to arrive.
A 2019 post on a Facebook account believed to belong to Smith hinted at potential issues with the teenager. The post read, “This lil boy gives me pure hell. Everything I did to my parents I’m getting it back times 10. Yall keep us lifted up in prayer.” Authorities are reportedly investigating the teenager’s mental health history as part of the ongoing investigation.
